Former Arsenal player and Austrian goalkeeper Alex Manninger died tragically connected Thursday aft nan conveyance he was driving was struck by a train astatine a railroad crossing successful Salzburg, constabulary said. He was 48.

Police told The Associated Press that Manninger was progressive successful a fatal "traffic mishap involving a section train and a car" astatine a railroad crossing early Thursday morning.

"Upon arrival, emergency responders recovered that nan car’s driver, a 48-year-old man from Salzburg, had already been freed from nan conveyance by first responders and was undergoing CPR. Police assisted pinch resuscitation efforts, including nan usage of a defibrillator. Despite further efforts by paramedics and an emergency physician, resuscitation was unsuccessful. The man from Salzburg succumbed to his injuries."
